How to write an AI Q&A page?
Chapter 4: Content Marketing · Question 55
What is a Q&A page?
A Q&A page is a content page specifically designed to answer informational queries like "What is XX." When users search "What is GEO," “ "What is organic traffic," “ "What is a long-tailKeyword“, your Q&A page is the traffic entry point.
It is among all content formatsthe easiest to see results fromBecause "What is XX" is the first question everyone asks when entering a new field—high search volume, clear intent, and not limited by industry: software sellers can write it, consultants can write it, and brick-and-mortar shops can write it too.
Why are Q&A pages even more worth doing in the AEO era?
Since AI search emerged, the value of Q&A pages has risen rather than fallen, because AI's citation mechanism naturally matches them:
| Advantages | Description |
|---|---|
| AI only cites "direct answers” | When Doubao, Kimi, ChatGPT, and ERNIE Bot answer "What is XX," they prioritize pages with clear definitions and complete structure |
| Informational queries remain the largest traffic pool | The first type of question users ask AI is "What is”." Industry estimates put such queries at 60-80% of total search volume (unofficial statistics) |
| The competitive window is still open | Many websites still use "product page thinking" for content; few truly nail the Q&A structure |
| Compounding effect | Once a Q&A page is indexed by AI, it gets cited repeatedly—one investment brings long-term traffic |
| Building authority | Being cited by AI multiple times in a row builds trust that "you own this concept" |
Core shift:In the past, the goal of a Q&A page was to capture Baidu featured snippets; now the goal is to be cited by AI as "the standard answer."
Standard structure of a Q&A page (AEO-optimized version)
1. One-sentence definition section
In the first paragraph, give a definition that can be directly cited in 1-2 sentences.
What is GEO? GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of using structured content, verifiable information, and high-quality sources to increase the likelihood that brands are cited and recommended by AI search engines (Doubao, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.) in their answers.
There is only one standard:Can this passage be cited verbatim by AI? If yes, you're halfway there. So:
- Keep the sentence pattern as "definition + explanation”, like the example above"
- Don't write historical background, don't pile up adjectives
- Aim for 60-100 characters—enough for AI to extract, and enough for users to grasp instantly
2. Immediate answer section (give the complete answer)
Many Q&A pages stop after giving a definition. That doesn't work in the AEO era—after answering "what it is," AI usually follows with 2-3 sentences of supplement (how to use it, how it differs from other concepts, typical scenarios).
Approach: right after the definition, immediately use a ### section to answer "what problem does it solve" or "how does it differ from XX." These follow-up questions are exactly what users will ask next in the AI chat box. If you write them in advance, AI can quote your content in full rather than piecing together someone else's.
3. FAQ section: write follow-up questions as a Q&A list
Place 4-6 follow-up questions users will actually ask at the bottom of the page, each in the 问题 → 直接答案 format:
**什么是长尾关键词?** 指搜索量低但意图明确的关键词组合,单个词流量小,但数量多、转化率高,整体贡献的流量占比反而最大。
**长尾关键词还有用吗?** 有用,但作用从"抢排名"变成"被 AI 引用时覆盖更多提问角度"。
Note:FAQ The answer must be content thatgenuinely existsin the page body—don't fabricate just to fill out the FAQ.
4. Add FAQPage structured data
This step directly determines whether AI and search engines can "identify you as a Q&A."
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "FAQPage",
"mainEntity": [
{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "什么是 GEO?",
"acceptedAnswer": {
"@type": "Answer",
"text": "GEO(生成式引擎优化)是通过结构化内容、可验证信息与高质量信源,让品牌更大概率被 AI 搜索引擎引用和推荐的做法。"
}
}
]
}
</script>
(Hugo sites can use this in the template .Plain to auto-generate; every article on this site has its FAQPage Structured dataadded this way.)
5. Internal links to related Q&As
At the end of the page, use "Related reading" to connect other Q&As on the same topic. Let AI follow yourInternal linksto "read through" the entire topic, and help users dig deeper.
Keyword strategy: core question + N follow-up questions
Traditional SEO uses "core keyword + long-tail keyword", while Q&A pages switch to "core question + follow-up questions":
核心问题(1个):什么是 GEO
追问(3-5个):
- GEO 和 SEO 有什么区别
- GEO 怎么做
- 哪些平台在做 GEO
- 被 AI 引用有什么好处
- GEO 适合哪些企业
Put the core question in the H1 and first paragraph, give each follow-up question its own H2/H3, and answer "what it is, how it differs, how to do it, who it's for." This way, no matter how users rephrase their questions in AI, your page covers it.
Internal link strategy: build topical authority with Q&A clusters
Don't let Q&A pages become islands—use a "one pillar question + multiple sub-questions" cluster:
[什么是 GEO](支柱问答)
/ | \
[GEO 和 [AI 搜索 [怎么让 AI
SEO区别] 如何引用] 推荐品牌]
- Pillar page (“What is XX”) links to all sub-Q&A pages
- Sub-Q&A pages link to each other
- Each page's "Related reading" is a natural internal link vehicle
- The denser the cluster, the easier it is for AI to recognize you as an authoritative source in this field
Common mistakes (from an AEO perspective)
- Writing the definition section as a long essay— AI can't extract the answer, and users won't read it all
- Only definitions, no follow-up questions— AI can only quote one sentence from you and pulls everything else from competitors
- FAQ doesn't match the body text— Structured data requires "what you see is what you get"; making things up loses trust
- No structured data— That's voluntarily giving up the chance to be recognized as a Q&A
- Isolated page— Without cluster internal links, AI can't judge your expertise in this field
Practical recommendations
- Rewriting beats creating new: Run every existing "what is" page through the structure above—add a one-sentence definition, a follow-up question section, and FAQPage. Rewriting is often faster than writing from scratch, and results come faster too
- Find follow-up questions in AI chat boxes: Search your core question with Doubao/Kimi, see how many "related follow-up questions" it lists, and write those follow-ups verbatim into your FAQ section
- Verify citations once a quarter: Search your core question with AI and check whether your page is still in the answer's citation list; if not, check whether a "newer" answer has overtaken it
