FAQ Page Writing: How to Get Cited by AI?
Chapter 3: AI Search Optimization · Question 40
FAQ pages inherently have a "Q&A" structure, which is exactly what AI searchengines favor most as a content format. But not all FAQs get cited—many companies write FAQs like customer service scripts, which have no informational value for AI.
What does an AI-cited FAQ look like?
By observing the cited sources of Perplexity and Doubao, good FAQs share the following traits:
- The question is something users actually search for: not "How do I register for our product" but industry questions like "How do SMEs choose a cloud server."
- The answer contains factual information: specific data, steps, comparisons—not vague marketing talk.
- Each answer is kept to 100-300 characters: too short and there's no information; too long and AI struggles to extract it (an empirical suggestion, not a hard limit).
- FAQPage Schema markup is used: this is the structured signal that tells search engines and AI "this is an FAQ."
Anti-examples of FAQ writing
✗ Q: What advantages does your product have? A: We have an industry-leading technical team with ten years of deep expertise, providing customers with one-stop solutions.
AI won't cite this kind of answer because: there's no specific information, it's too marketing-heavy, and it would still make sense with a different brand name swapped in.
The right way to write FAQs
✓ Q: How long does it generally take for an enterprise to move to the cloud? A: The time for an enterprise to move to the cloud varies by scale and complexity, typically in three phases: assessment and planning (2-4 weeks), migration execution (1-3 months), and optimization and adjustment (ongoing). If an SME is only migrating infrastructure (such as email systems or the official website), it usually takes 2-4 weeks. For large enterprises migrating core business systems, the cycle is generally 3-6 months.

Advanced: Where to dig up FAQ questions?—Real, high-frequency customer questions
The most effective sources of questions are often not inKeywordtools, but in your customer service records, sales scripts, and private domain communities—find the 50 questions customers ask most, and these are the GEO "goldmine" (e.g., "Can product XX be used in low-temperature environments?““What are the fees for XX service?").
- Use an H2 heading for each question, and keep answers to 100-200 characters
- Give the conclusion directly, don't beat around the bush
- “The "one question, one answer" structure fits AI's information extraction logic extremely well; when asking questions in tools like DeepSeek, FAQ content is highly likely to be cited directly as the "standard answer.”

Practical recommendations
- Use Baidu Keyword Tool, 5118,ZhihuSearch to identify the real industry questions users are asking—these should be the questions in your FAQ.
- Each FAQ answer should include at least one specific data point or time frame to enhance citability.
- An FAQ page should ideally contain 10-20 questions (empirical recommendation); too many dilutes the weight of individual answers.
